The best dog walks in Coventry: our top routes around Coombe Abbey Park

Our top routes around Coombe Abbey Park:

The best Coombe Abbey dog walking routes

1. Redwood Grove & The Spinney (1.5 miles)

This is a peaceful stroll perfect for a morning wander or to stretch your legs after a long day. Set off from our Visitor Centre and Café and then loop through our gardens and arboretum, home to hundreds of beautiful, protected plant life. Pass the stunning exterior of Coombe Abbey Hotel, then continue following the path around Top Pool, past the adventure zone at Go Ape, before returning for a well-deserved coffee at The Café in the Park

Top tips for a great dog walk:

- Don’t miss the off-lead area near the Spinney, perfect for a safe and contained stretch of the legs for well-behaved pups

- Pop into The Café in the Park for some post-walk coffee, cake, and fresh water bowls for your dog

- Visit the charming Abbey Artisan Market nearby for grab-and-go snacks, drinks, and handmade local produce to take home

2. Heron’s Way (2 miles)

If your dog loves exciting new sights and scents, this slightly longer route is perfect for you. Begin at the Visitor Centre and cross the water towards the bird hide and natural conservation area, before wandering back through beautiful woodland, past the climbing forest and Go Ape adventure area, before returning to The Café in the Park for refreshments. This walk is perfect for any bird-watchers or nature enthusiasts, as you’ll be able to spot plenty of exciting avian activity including shoveler ducks, herons, and even woodland birds like the greater spotted woodpecker from the seclusion of our bird hide and observation area. As this is an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) due to the protected flora and fauna found in this area, we kindly ask that all dogs (no matter how well-behaved!) remain on-lead.

Top tips for a great dog walk:

- Bring some binoculars - the lakeside conservation area is perfect for watching all kinds of animals come and go

- Stop in at The Sundae Club for a well-earned treat (their Cookie Sandwich and Bubblegum Sundae remain firm local favourites)

- Grab a takeaway coffee or snack from the Abbey Artisan Market’s coffee hatch, opposite the Play Park

3. Discover Capability Brown (2.5 miles)

Calling all history-lovers - this route’s for you! For those looking to stretch their (and their pooch’s) legs, this longer scenic route takes you on a tour of legendary landscape designer Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown’s 18th century work in Coombe Abbey Park. A skilled designer, landscape architect, and engineer, Capability Brown helped to popularise the 18th century English landscape style and was commissioned by the 6th Baron Craven in 1771 to transform the landscape around Coombe Abbey, which had previously been home to Cisterian monks. Still preserved to this day, follow the Discover Capability Brown route to see the old deer park, enjoy views across the grazing meadows, and try and spot some of our resident deer along the way!
