Whilst The Avenue itself is a contemporary addition to the estate, it sits within a landscape steeped in nearly 900 years of rich history. The Coombe Abbey estate dates back to 1150, when Cistercian monks founded the Abbey of Cumbe, which became the largest and most influential monastery in Warwickshire during the 12th century. Over the centuries, this remarkable site has witnessed pivotal moments in British history, from housing Princess Elizabeth (daughter of King James I) in the early 1600s to playing an unwitting role in the Gunpowder Plot.
